About Us

Founded in 1982, Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has been a cornerstone of our community's fight against hunger for over four decades. We believe that access to nutritious food is a fundamental right, and we work tirelessly to ensure no one in our community goes hungry.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to transform hunger into health. We do this by distributing fresh, nutritious food through a network of over 50 partner agencies, while also providing nutrition education and support programs for families, children, seniors, and agricultural workers throughout Santa Barbara County.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are committed to transparency, efficiency, and maximizing the impact of every donation we receive.

We operate a sophisticated distribution network that moves millions of pounds of food annually from donors to families in need. Our warehouse and logistics operations ensure fresh produce and nutritious items reach our 50+ partner locations efficiently and safely.

Nutrition education program

Nutrition Education

We believe that food is medicine. Our nutrition education programs teach families how to prepare healthy meals, make the most of fresh produce, and develop lasting healthy eating habits. From cooking classes to grocery store tours, we empower our community with knowledge.

Community health program

Food as Medicine

Our innovative Food as Medicine program partners with healthcare providers to prescribe healthy food as part of treatment plans. This evidence-based approach addresses diet-related health conditions and improves outcomes for patients with diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic conditions.

Agricultural Worker Support

As an agricultural community, Santa Barbara County relies on farmworkers who often face food insecurity themselves. We provide dedicated support to agricultural workers and their families, ensuring those who feed our community are themselves nourished.
